Shane Gillis has struck a deal for his first scripted series: a Netflix workplace comedy set in an auto repair shop.
The streamer has ordered six episodes of Tires, which is based on a pilot concept Gillis had previously posted on YouTube. The setup: “Will (Steven Gerben), the nervous and unqualified heir to an auto repair chain, attempts to turn his father’s business around despite constant torture from his cousin and now employee, Shane (Gillis).”
Gillis serves as an executive producer, a writer and co-creator of the show, which will premiere on Netflix on May 23. Tires also stars Chris O’Connor, Kilah Fox and Stavros Halkias and has guest appearances by Andrew Schulz. The show marks the second production from Gillis and co-creator and director John McKeever’s production company, Dad Sick Productions.

In addition, Netflix has ordered another stand-up special from Gillis. His 2023 special, Beautiful Dogs, reached the Netflix Top 10 in five countries and spent two weeks in the U.S. Top 10. Gillis will also perform two live shows in the second annual Netflix Is a Joke comedy festival in May.
The news follows Gillis hosting Saturday Night Live this weekend, which represented a return to the late night sketch series following his firing from the show 2019 (which he referenced in the monologue, joking, “If you don’t know who I am, please don’t google that”).
Gillis also made headlines recently by landing a high-profile sponsorship deal with beleaguered beer brand Bud Light.
In both cases, Gillis landing a mainstream platform has been positioned by some as a triumph of “anti-woke” comedy, though others point out Gillis’ stand-up is largely self-effacing rather than acting as a culture warrior.
Since losing that SNL gig, Gillis has gradually ramped up his profile through podcast appearances (he’s a Joe Rogan regular), posting his first stand-up special on YouTube (Shane Gillis: Live in Austin, which has 24 million views), appearing in the Pete Davidson series Bupkis, and landing his breakout Netflix special.
For Tires, Brandon James is an executive producer for Rough House; Brian Stern and Kenneth Slotnick are executive producers for AGI Entertainment Media & Management. Becky Astphan is an executive producer
